This project was a reworking of an existing clinker brick and mission brown 1970’s house, that had a series of unfortunate extensions but in a beautiful spot.
The re-design recognized the best of qualities of the site, which is an open aspect and lovely relationship to Blackmans Bay Beach, the northern headland and the river Derwent.
Our approach was to pull the kitchen out of the bowels of the house and open it up by demolishing the extension that crowded out the front.
The essential bones of the house were good and worth retaining.
The design is an open plan living space, which makes the most of the intrinsic qualities, enhanced by the architecture.
