Huon Valley Trade Training Centre is a new Trade Training facility in Huonville, Tasmania. Sited adjacent to Huonville High School the HVTTC provides vocational qualification pathways for Aquaculture, Automotive, Electro-Technology, Plumbing, Construction, Wood Machining, Metals and Engineering, Hospitality and Horticulture. Simply put, it's a complex shed in a paddock.
The design incorporates a limited palette of locally available industrial materials, such as: precast concrete, steel portal frames and sheet metal cladding, which is in contrast to the workshops that accommodate complex machines and plant/equipment. The spaces are full of natural light and integrated services to provide best practice, contemporary vocational training.
The HVTTC sustainability innovations and features incorporate: stormwater harvesting for reuse and reticulation for aquaculture and horticulture, wetlands filtration, heat recovery, retention of site excavation, carbon offset planting, hydroponic nutrient recovery, teaching programs that include facility environmental management, community engagement/facility use for endemic plant species regeneration and vegetation regeneration programmes.
